Chennai Super Kings openers Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed their joy after CSK won the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).
The MS Dhoni-led side thumped Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the final to clinch their fourth IPL title. One of the main architects behind them becoming he champions was the duo of Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The opening pair contributed in every match for the CSK and provided a solid start, including a half-century stand in the final, which set the platform for every other batter to follow. While Gaikwad grabbed the orange cap with 635 runs, Du Plessis was not far behind as he amassed 633 runs in the 16 matches he played.
The South African batsman, who won Player of the Match in the final for his vital knock of 86 runs, said that he was grateful that his team won the IPL in what was his 100th game in the tournament.
He further lauded his opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad and said that young gun has a bright future ahead of him and he’ll share few things that will help him but he doesn’t think he needs him.
“That was a great day. I am really grateful for today. It was also my 100th game in the IPL. I have loved my time here. I have done almost ten years here – two seasons were a bit of a break. No. 4 in the trophy cabinet is really good.
Gaikwad is a special talent. Indian cricket is blessed with talent. He is getting better. He’s got a super, bright future ahead of him. I can have a word with him, share a few things that may help him but I don’t think he needs me,” Faf du Plessis told Star Sports.
Taking about the same, young opener said that it was ‘top of the moon feeling’ for him to win the orange cap and the IPL, especially after having a forgettable season last year.
“It is top of the moon feeling to win the orange cap and win the IPL. It is very very satisfying to win the IPL. It feels great. We didn’t have a great season. Coming here, everyone believed and we are here. When you are performing well, you are confident on your lesser risk shots. You need to make sure you are there till the end,” Ruturaj Gaikwad told Star Sports.
With an emphatic win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) became the second team with four IPL titles, only behind Mumbai Indians who have five titles in their kitty.
