Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant on Tuesday (September 28) shared his two cents on the altercation between Eoin Morgan and R Ashwin during the 41st game of IPL 2021.
Ashwin and Morgan were involved in a heated exchange after the former was dismissed by KKR pacer Tim Southee in the last over of DC’s innings at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Notably, Pant and Ashwin had picked a second run off the last ball of the 19th over when the ball thrown by the fielder ricochets off the DC captain. The incident seemed to have annoyed the KKR outfit as some consider it to be against the Spirit of Cricket.
“I think it is part and parcel of the game because both the teams are striving to win the match so something is going to happen. That was in the spirit of the game, nothing much because Ashwin and Morgan are trying to win the game for their side. There can be some miscommunication,” said Pant during a virtual press conference, as quoted by ANI.
Coming to the match, Delhi Capitals suffered a three-wicket defeat at the hands of the Knight Riders in a low-scoring affair.
Invited to bat first, DC posted a below-par 127/9 in their stipulated 20 overs, which KKR chased down with 10 balls to spare.
However, the captain isn’t too concerned by the loss and said that his side will learn from the mistakes.
“I think spinners did a really good job, even the pacers as well. We were just lacking in 1-2 overs but that is part and parcel of the game. We will learn from our mistakes and move on,” Pant said.
Replacing injured Prithvi Shaw at the top, Australia’s star batter Steve Smith top-scored with a knock of 34-ball 39 for Delhi.
“I think when Steve Smith played in Chennai, he did a good job for us so that we thought we will give him a chance and see how it goes,” said Pant.
Delhi Capitals will take on Mumbai Indians in their next game on Saturday (October 2).
