ENG v IND 2021: Pitch invader Daniel Jarvis arrested on charges of assault

Pitch invader Daniel Jarvis aka ‘Jarvo’ has been arrested by the police after he tried to disrupt proceedings in the ongoing fourth Test between England and India at the Oval.

During the second day’s play, Jarvo ran onto the pitch and bowled a delivery of his own to England batsman Ollie Pope before colliding with Jonny Bairstow at the non-striker’s end.

Jarvo’s antics took Bairstow by surprise and it also left the Indian players furious. He was forcefully evicted out of the ground to a chorus of boos from the crowd

A statement from the Metropolitan Police read: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault following an incident at the Oval Cricket Ground on Friday, 3 September. He remains in custody at a south London police station.”

Earlier, Daniel Jarvis was banned by the Yorkshire County for invading the Leeds pitch during the third Test. His first appearance was at Lord’s as he prepared for a bowling run-up and was forced off the pitch by the security personnel.

Players from both sides may now have doubts over the state of security after three separate grounds were infiltrated by a single offender.

An England and Wales Cricket Board spokesperson said: “Any pitch invasion is completely unacceptable. The ECB and our host venues do not tolerate any such behaviour which risks the safety of players, officials and staff. The ECB works closely with all our venues to share information and enhance their security operation.”
