ENG v IND 2021: Fifth Test to go ahead after Indian players test negative for COVID-19

The fifth Test between India and England will go ahead as per schedule after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed there have been no further positive COVID-19 results in the Indian camp. All the 21 players of the Indian Test squad tested negative for COVID-19 in their lateral flow and RT-PCR tests.

An ECB spokesperson confirmed that the “Test match goes ahead” as scheduled on Friday, September 10.

The entire Indian group faced a COVID scare after assistant physio Yogesh Parmar tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. Their practice session was also cancelled as players were told to isolate in their hotel rooms.

Earlier, head coach Ravi Shastri, fielding coach R Sridhar and bowling coach Bharath Arun had tested positive during the fourth Test in London.

India lead 2-1 in the five-Test series after winning the Oval Test by 157 runs. It will be interesting to see how the unit shapes up after a difficult eve ahead of the match.
